Hey Gang, The Primal Root here, and due to the unfortunate passing of one of horror cinema's greatest icons, legendary filmmaker Wes Craven, The Trash Cinema Collective has put together a double bill of Craven films to pay tribute to our fallen horror elder. Hand picked by The Trash Cinema Collective members, we'll be watching The Hills Have Eyes (1977 film) and Nightmare On Elm St (1984) as we celebrate the incredibly contributions Wes made the art of horror cinema.
The Hills Have Eyes (1977) Tells the tale of The Carter family, who on their way to California, get stranded in an unforgiving portion land closed to the public and used primarily as an Air Force testing range. Little do these pampered suburbanites realize they are being watched by malicious family which lives in the stony hills surrounding The Carter's. A family who have lived in these hills for years, know how to survive off the land, and are looking to lay siege to the unsuspecting Carter's. It's a battle between the civilized and the savage in Wes Craven's grueling, blood thirsty horror show from the golden age of American horror, The Hills Have Eyes.
A Nightmare on Elm Street (1985): Nancy Thompson and her teenage pals have been experiencing vivid, deeply horrifying nightmares. What's strange, they soon realize, is that they are all dreaming of the same scarred, taunting, dirty red and green sweater wearing man "with knives for fingers." It all becomes clear as one by one the teens on Elm Street go to bed alive and are found brutally murdered in the morning. It is up to the resilient Nancy Thompson to figure out how to stop this seemingly unstoppable mad man, and to do so, she must discover the truth behind the lies her parents have told her her whole life and dig deep into the dark, guarded secrets of her home town of Springwood. A Nightmare on Elm Street is a milestone is 1980's slasher horror cinema. A landmark of the genre, A Nightmare on Elm Street spawned a legion of sequels, imitators and made Freddy Krueger, the cinematic boogeyman of our generation, a household name.
Please, come out and join your friends from The Trash Cinema Collective as we salute a true pioneer in the horror genre, the main who warned us not to fall sleep, Wes Craven. Let's get together, drink, share stories and enjoy two of Craven's most beloved and ground breaking films. Wes Craven's legacy lives on.
Hope to see you there, Gang!
Stay Trashy!
